Redesigning the cancer journey: The example of lung cancer

Consider the way we've reimagined lung cancer. In many systems, patients with suspected lung cancer endure a drawn-out sequence including biopsy, weeks of waiting, then surgery. We asked a different question: Why should patients wait when the answer — and the treatment — can happen now?

We developed an innovative disease-focused lung cancer program that directs patients to the right provider (oncologist, surgeon, or pulmonologist, for example) as the first step. From there, advanced navigational bronchoscopy, real-time pathology and minimally invasive thoracic surgery come together in a single coordinated episode of care. When cancer is confirmed, resection can proceed immediately, and often robotically and lung-sparing, eliminating delays that add anxiety and risk.

This is not incremental improvement. It’s a fundamental rethinking of care delivery.
